Loon's Lair is a charming pine-paneled studio cottage surrounded by evergreens on 34+ private acres, with over 2000 feet of tidal shoreline on Taunton Bay. Windows all around ensure you always have a view of the woods, and the tidal shoreline is just 200 feet away. Relax on the front porch or have a cookout on the supplied outdoor grill and picnic table.
In the morning you can watch the sun rise over Schoodic Mountain across the bay, and in the evening you can sit on our 19th-century stone wharf to watch the sun set near Cadillac Mountain. The property includes a wonderful private swimming quarry and hiking trails. Shopping nearby includes outlet stores -- the L.L. Bean Factory Store is a must-see.
Amid this natural beauty are all the comforts of home. With a Scandinavian-style sleeping "nook" and a queen-size futon, the cottage sleeps four. Built-in heaters are at your control, and the cottage includes an AM/FM radio with CD/Tape player. All linens, pillows, and blankets are provided. The bathroom is outfitted with ceiling heat lamps and enough towels for the whole family. An iron and ironing board are also in the cottage.
Taunton Bay is reputed to have some of the best bird-watching on the Eastern seaboard. Loons, eagles, osprey, gulls of all types, chickadees, nuthatches, plovers, woodpeckers, and kingfishers -- to name a few -- all visit Loon's Lair. Launching your canoe or kayak from the peninsula is easy, and the seals who often bask on rocks in the bay are always curious about visitors. Acadia National Park is nearby.
After a day on the water or on the town, whip up something scrumptious in the full kitchen complete with all the amenities: automatic coffee maker, convection oven, full-sized refrigerator, and microwave. A complete set of kitchen utensils is provided... including, of course, a lobster pot!
